A new Android tablet is coming to market soon, but it’s being made from a company that you may not have expected.
Walmart is prepping a new Android tablet that’ll be lower-cost and kid-friendly. The device will feature Walmart’s ONN branding, says Bloomberg. Walmart spokeswoman Tara House confirmed that the retailer is prepping a new kid-focused tablet, but didn’t share any other info. It’s unclear when the device will launch or how much it’ll cost when it does.
The device has already passed through the FCC, and the filing includes external photos of the device. The images show a pretty generic-looking tablet with front and rear cameras and ONN branding on its backside.
When it comes to its specs, this ONN tablet will run Android 9 Pie on an 8-inch 1280×800 display, according to a list leaked by XDA-Developers‚ Mishaal Rahman. It’ll also include a MediaTek MT8163 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, a microSD card slot, and a 3500mAh battery that you’ll recharge over microUSB.
This new Walmart tablet is expected to be inexpensive, and those leaked specs certainly back that up. The device isn’t going to be a replacement for your iPad or Galaxy Tab S4, but sitting on a shelf in Walmart stores with an aggressive price, it could be attractive to folks looking for low-cost tablet for watching video or to give to their kids.
